Akomyawo African ministries

Greetings in Jesus' name!

My name is Pastor Jonathan Kabanda. I have had the privilege of serving the Lord as a pastor, evangelist, and church planter for the past 23 years. Together with my wife Betty, we live in Mukono, located 23 kilometers from Kampala City, Uganda. We are blessed with 7 children, including 5 adopted daughters, who are a cherished part of our family.

We lead Horizon Community Church - Mukono Nama, a vibrant and growing congregation committed to worship, discipleship, and outreach. Our broader mission is carried through Akomyawo African Ministries, which means “The Lord Is Bringing Back Africa to Himself.” This evangelistic ministry is dedicated to preaching the Gospel, planting churches, and raising up leaders to reach communities across Uganda and beyond with the love and truth of Jesus Christ.

We are passionate about seeing lives transformed, communities renewed, and Africa restored to God’s divine purpose.

We are an EVANGELISTIC ministry. We do the following:

  • Evangelism (with a Jesus film, festivals, house to house, evangelism in prisons, high schools, universities hospitals, and Revival meetings)
  • Education ( We support the underprivileged to pursue education)
  • Feeding people ( We give food baskets to the underprivileged, widows and orphans in desperate need)
  • Medical camps. We collaborate with medical and health workers to organize medical camps that target treatment of general issues and provide professional counseling services to people affected by poor mental health and other health conditions.
  • Self-sustainability( Because food support is not sustainable, we support single mothers and other underprivileged parents to start small scale businesses to sustain themselves)
  • Water Supply. We support communities to have access to safe and clean water by digging Groundwater Well (boreholes) for them.

How we serve

Akomyawo African ministries (The Lord is bringing back Africa to Him) We are an EVANGELISTIC ministry focused on preaching the gospel where Christ has not been preached

Over the past 21 years, we have seen a tremendous hand of God via Jesus film. Amazingly; you don’t need a stage, posters announcements on radios, but with a simple megaphone, you can move around a village community and invite people to come and watch a Jesus film for free on a projector. Within hours, people come. Uganda has 56 dialects. People watch it in their own language so they can relate to it better.

Majority are watching it for the first time, people do cry a lot especially at crucifiixion time!! Is not only like any other movie and it’s not only an evangelistic tool, but a discipleship one!! So it’s a side by side ministry. As a result, the Lord has used us to win thousands of souls via a Jesus film. We have seen our COUSINS( Muslims) getting saved. Many miracles, signs and wonders have happened. Through a Jesus film ministry. we have helped many pastors to plant churches which we cannot count in Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda,Burundi, Tanzania,Nigeria, Philippines Mexico and South Africa.

The Lord sent us to preach the gospel to remote areas preaching the Gospel and do discipleship. As we went along serving the Lord in villages, we discovered that 80% of Ugandan live villages, where there’s less resources, schools, hospitals , grocery stores etc. 87% of the children don’t finish their education. That’s why we need and do education sponsorship. Most of the pastors. Are not educated and can’t teach a right doctrine, that’s why we do seminars and trainings for pastors. And have a vision of mobile Bible trainings!! 50%of pastors don’t have bibles in their local languages. Uganda: Uganda is a size of Wisconsin state of United States of America. Has a population of 55 million people. 72% are under age 17 and among those who attend school 40% finish high school

In Uganda, 30% of children aged 10–13 are orphans, having lost their parents to HIV/AIDS, war, and road accidents—many of which are caused by poor road infrastructure. These children face a future of uncertainty and despair. Our mission is to step in and provide them with the care, support, and love they desperately need.

Additionally, 15% of Ugandan women are widows, and 30% of women aged 18–35 are single mothers. Many of these women live in poverty, with no stable income, inadequate nutrition, and face daily stigma and rejection from society.

Our ministry is committed to restoring dignity and hope to these vulnerable groups through education, feeding programs, counseling, skill development, and spiritual care.

We organize medical camps in unreached areas to provide occasional access to health services to the local communities. We collaborate with a team of medical experts to fullfil this. Apart from general health challenges, we also support people with mental health challenges, a recent study by the ministry of health reveals that 1 out of 3 Ugandans is struggling with poor mental health. Extending medical and counselling services helps to provide some relief.

  • 32% of Ugandans have access to a basic water supply, and over 21 million people lack clean water.

Education Impact

  • 6 university students have completed their education with Bachelor’s degrees.
  • 2 of them are continuing their studies, pursuing PhDs — one in Education, the other in Theology.
  • 2 students have graduated from vocational institutes — one in Catering and another in Automotive Engineering.
  • 20 students are currently enrolled in primary and secondary schools.
  • Many others are still on a waiting list, hoping for sponsorship and support.

Church Planting Ministry

By God’s grace, 7 churches have been planted through our ministry:

  1. Buddo Bible Community Church
  2. Horizon Community Church – Mukono
  3. Kitamba Community Church
  4. Luweero Christian Fellowship
  5. Mayuge Ransom Community Church
  6. Nakaseke Community Church

A Call for Partnership

The Lord has used our ministry to plant many churches and support pastors in their callings. We cannot do this alone.

We prayerfully invite you to partner with us — through prayer and financial support — to continue reaching more lives with the love and hope of Christ.
